I have a BS in Geography concentrated in Geographic Information Systems. I'm a straight shooter..
If anyone has any networks, please help!

Give the man a job DT. You can afford it. Pay him to do your fishing and you post the reports. That way you can take credit for something.

FnG: Theres a users group in this area that is often advertising on behalf of organizations that are hiring in the field. You may want to get on their DL for notices - as well as other good GIS Q&A.

I would check with county property appraisers as they are required to maintain GIS databases as well as agencies that use a lot of maps such as law enforcement or environmental protection. Good luck.

Seriously, in this area, you could check with timber companies, and some of the many plantations around here. They are all beginning to use GIS to map out their properties. There are also quite a few individuals in this area that are timber cruisers that may want GIS services.

I have a buddy that works for a company that maintains Powerline/Pipeline Right of ways. I know that he just scored a big contract with Alabama power and also so does a lot in Fla. Might be right up your alley...PM me aand I'll forward his info to you. He lives here in Bainbridge.

Preferred
One or more years of professional experience in GIS. Ability to interpret natural communities/habitats from maps, aerial photographs, and satellite images. Skill in using relational databases, web design/programming, cartography, and/or graphic design. A commitment to biological conservation goals.

Responsibilities
Conducts conservation-related spatial data analysis and prepares reports and data products requested by government agencies, private consultants, and the public. Conducts Geographic Information System (GIS) analysis of conservation-related data, including species habitat, natural communities, and land cover. Prepares maps, reports, spreadsheets, and data files for outside requests and in-house projects. Works with the public to answer questions and determine how the Inventory can be most helpful. Assists with development, maintenance, and Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) of GIS products and metadata. Assists with acquisition, organization, and maintenance of base GIS data and databases. Tracks trends in data requests over time, producing reports and assisting with the development of new data and/or map products to meet public needs. Assists with in-house GIS technical support.
Pay Plan
This is an USPS (University Support Personnel System) position. Preference will be given to eligible veterans and their spouses with proper documentation (applicants must submit a copy of their DD214 with their online application).
