Took the day off work to take dad, brother, and uncle to Econfina. My uncle fishes for those "other trout" in the streams of northern New Mexico and though my brother lives in south Georgia this was his first flats trip. Made it slowly out of the river despite the treacherously low tide. Its hard to see the bars and rocks when the water looks like coffee. Never found water with more than 1ft visibility.
Caught some short trout in the morning during the rising tide. My brother hooked something huge. He would get it to the boat, then it would make drag stripping run. After 3-4 such runs the hook came loose and my brother was ready to cry. It never came up where we could see it, but I'm guessing it was a big cobia. We spent much of the morning looking for the trout, but the bite was sporadic. Moved in closer about 11:00 to try for some reds. I caught a 17" & 25", and my brother caught his first red a 15" puppy.
my 25" red
my brother's 1st red
My uncle had an upper slot limit red on and lost him. After the high tide we moved out and finally found some keeper trout in the late afternoon. Ended with 5 keeper trout, 1 keeper red, a 22" spanish, 2 reds released, 1 big red lost, 1 cobia lost, and big trout lost. I'll post pictures when I get them off my dad's camera. Keeper trout were caught on the falling tide in 5-6 ft water on jigs.
