I didn't have much time so early Mon AM I waded in at Oak Grove (the first place you come to in St Joe) and started with topwater before sunup. Nothing until the sun breaks the treeline. In the next 1/2 hour I picked up 3 trout 21-24" -no shorts. The 24 had a 5" bluefish on the other hook. It slowed and I was in by 9:00AM. Water was clear and the grass was fishable. I was using a new lure, to me, a Yozuri mag popper. It works like a cross between a spook and a chug bug. I think I like it! Lets hope it hurry's up and clears around here.

Yea, I wasn't sure I'd have any chance to fish at all so I didn't load the kayak -but I did bring the rod! Some nice trout did feel great -I'm still "reeling". The water was clear but I wonder about the salinity. I caught a big freshwater turtle (cooter spp?) in the turtle grass. If I was close to a creek I'd say maybe but I wasn't & how that turtle was there I don't know.

Sounds like fun. Hope to be feeling one them (bigger than 20" fish) soon. Good report.
