Mono V-hull Vs. Cat

Looking at purchasing first-time offshore boat, and kinda wondering why everyone buys mono v-hulls when everything I read is telling me that the catamaran design is somewhat better in rough seas, has more deck room, much better draft ( kinda moot point ), lower gunnels, and requires less effort to move. Somebody please edumukate me on what I'm missing - besides the price and maybe some manuevering.

Why do people buy Fords when they Know GMC's and Chevy's are better. Some questions can never be answered
I think one drawback is beam. Most cats would be too wide to tow comfortably and without permits. I have seem some 8 foot beam cats, but was not impressed.
Go wider, and you have to pay big bux for a slip, since I have not seen too many dry storage barns that have cat bunks. Then there is hull cleaning in a slip....I could go on and on.
Now, if you are talking 30 foot plus class boats, then I like those cats, but so do the manufacturers ($$$). And you do not tow those 12 foot plus beams too easily. You are also out of my league.

Cats can be a nightmare in a beamto or following sea. I would suggest riding on one or even driving one before you make your decision.

I forgot to mention that this is a family deal. Inshore scalloping, kayak ferry, maybe some diving in the far-off future, and offshore.
Do you think the gas efficiency should allow you to take out-of-route back and avoid the "bee-line" if it is going to be unreasonably uncomfortable. One of the models I looked at drafted 12 inches.

I have been in cat hulls twice both rode fine the seas were not rough.
Look at what they run in LA to hit the rigs and the lump for charters it is cats.
Call some of those guides or big bend Brian in Steinhatchee and ask them they own and fish out of them a lot.
Twinn Vee is a great boat for the money I have heard bad stuff about some of them.

Contact Scott Kent. He has a beauty and I've enjoyed the occassion to the far far away on it.
It was a different movement for sure in some otherwise rough 3-4s.

Bring it back to the top, for any new comments,
During my boat search, I have ran across several smaller (18 to 20 feet) cats with single motors.
From what I am seeing that would be a good choice for my needs.
Any other comments?

If you want a butt-ugly boat, buy a cat. And tow it with a Chevy pick-up
Editorial note: (No offense to cat owners intended. To each his own. I just couldn't resist.)

I don't mind butt-ugly,
if it is safe an reliable, Pu is a Dodge diesel, but I do have a Chevy Tahoe that I could use as a tow vehicle.

Catamarans don't handle as easily at lower speeds. Trying to turn one around in a narrow canal can be next to impossible. In most models, you also sacrifice storage space with the cat.
No argument, the cat offers a smoother ride in rough seas, but that's about all they're good for. (The same way that a Chevy is only good to be used as a status symbol.)
