Kentucky Lake - 5-11-09

Two straight weeks of rain. I finally got a half day in on the lake today. Picked Dan up at 1:00 and headed out with the Bass Tracker. Barkley is WAY up and real muddy right now with all of the rain. Would have been a waste of time trying to fish it so we decided to hit Kentucky Lake. We got to the KenLake ramp and it looked like everyone else had the same idea. The parking lot was full on a Monday afternoon. We put in and ran north and spent the day flippin' and pitchin' as far up into the brush as we could get the boat. We probably had 25 fish in the boat today. 4 keepers. We cranked the points as we were going into the pockets. I threw a new Strike King Red Eyed Shad in the Sexy Shad color. I caught two on that. They were only about 14 inches but fought like crazy. They were just mean little fellas. We fished until 5:30. Great day on the water. The air temp was 74 and the water temp was 70. Overcast starting off with intermittent clouds before we left. It's fun catching 'em out of the bushes. Kind of like an easter egg hunt. I was just glad we caught some with all of the pressure on the lake right now.

A nice 4 pounder I caught. I think she was bedding because I barely felt anything before I set the hook. Saw the line barley start to move as she was moving it off the bed. Snapped a picture and put her back to tend to her babies.

Big Fish of the day flippin' bushes. I think it's the FSU hat Dan wears. Took a picture and put her back.

Can't wait to hit it again.

Hasn't taken you long to figure that place out...or you've stumbled on a good guide dog.

I've still got A LOT to learn and Dan is a great "guide." I'm thankful that he's taken a young buck on to show the ropes. I love the lakes and there's enough water there to fish and learn for many years to come. He went back yesterday to one of those spots and almost landed a monster.
