The "red stuff" is water proof grease and suitable

I use Amsoil Synthetic in the foot and in the motor "change the foot oil about every 400 hours and the motor oil every 200 hours"

or roughly foot once a year and motor twice a year

Man that's a lot of hours in a year. My moter is 2 yrs old and might have 30-40 hours on it. Don't get to fish on average 1 or 2 times a month. Where get the Amsoil?

I get mine from Car Quest "because my nephew works there"

It is available at most Auto parts stores and many Walmart type stores

but be warned, it aint cheap

but the longevity of it makes it worth it "I use it in the car and truck and change the oil every 20,000 miles"

If you see oil/grease under the Quicksilver brand, then that is Mercury products. You may have better luck finding it under that name than the Mercury name. At Wal-Mart they sell some Quicksilver products such as 2-cycle oil, and if you look on the back its made by Mercury.
