Merc question

I have a friend that bought a new boat in March, has a 90hp Merc on it, thing is I was checking it out today and it seems the prop has play in it while on the motor, the nut is tight, shaft doesn't move just the prop, I know nothing of Merc's but my evenrude doesn't move around like this, any ideals or comments welcome..
