Personally I think it would beat ultimately becoming earthworm food six feet under. Guessing it's sold at a premium as are most burial options, but again, interesting nonetheless...

I've already let my family know that's what I want. My friends dad passed away a couple of weeks ago. We are going to place him on a reef in the keys later this year.

Tom, have you investigated costs? Just wondering if they're following in the footsteps of the regular burial industry w/heavy mark-ups or if it's more reasonable.

A friend of mine asked that his ashes be put in a concrete urn and "buried" at sea.
I attended the "committal" and a small group of us went out on three boats (all owned by friends, so no cost involved) and a few words were said at the appropriate time.
No permissions were required, no formalities had to be observed, it was all very simple.

There are organisations here that will do the same type of thing, but they have a rising scale of charges (depends on how many people attending/number or size of boat), which start at $650 and can easily go to over $5000.

I don't have any particular interest in what my family do with my body when I am gone, I know where my soul will be.

I figure a bag of quickcrete and a rubbermaid container should do the trick for me. Just add water!

Remember, they carry family out on the boat for burial in these prices, plus they have to get all the permits.


I'm with Tom, just a bag of quickcrete, and a trip to some hard bottom in my boat.

Of course, with our oppressive government today, I am sure that would break some law...
