Junior and I fished the Team Seatrout tournament on Sunday.
We knew there would be several boats on our first spot, but decided to fish it anyway.
Although it has been holding good fish recently the North wind and full moon slowed the bite tremendously.
That and the Georgia boys that wanted to fish across our boat. After seeing us net a decent fish, they decided to come closer. As they went past in front of us Junior made a cast into their bubble trail. They then went behind us and set up their drift within 30 feet of our boat. Yes, I said 30 feet. And directly behind us. They had to fish out the backside of their boat until we drifted apart.

We fished 5 spots without ever getting on any quality keepers.
Later in the day we decided to try for a redfish since we had opted for the redfish side pot. Junior was first in the boat with a red, a nice 26 incher. We were starting to feel better about our trip.
As the clock struck the majic time Junior said one more cast and we have to leave to get back on time.
My next and final cast lands in front of a perfect 27 inch redfish, a couple trips around the boat and she found Juniors waiting net.
We were worried that the tournament ruler and our ruler may differ and it would be over. On the tournament ruler no matter how John pinched the tail it was a perfect 27 inches to the tip and weighed exactly 7 pounds.
A fitting ending to a otherwise uneventful catching day.

It'd be hard to beat a 26" and 27" redfish.
Glad Jr took you fishing.

Just to be clear, it wasnt this GA BOY!!! that and we were there before the sun was. You are right, that hole has been raped. Its sad too because it really had some great fish on it. It has for the past two years. The nice thing about it is the lady fish have moved in. I bet we caught 50 ladies. Thats ok. Theres always the other side of St George Sound!! GREAT red JT. Oh, and please dont take that arse whoopin me and CC put on ya seriously. Being the novice I am I realize it wont happen often !!! Good to see you guys at the weigh in!!

you can't beat two reds that size anyday, and especially in a tourney. way to go.

that is the worst having someone set right up on you. it is even more terrible when it is in the middle of the week and it is literally you and the one other boat in the entire ocean. that happened to us back in april at the econ. when i asked the guy why (that's how close he was...i was able to have a conversation with him) he would set up that close on a Tuesday with no one else out, his reply was "the place looked good". WE WERE 4 MILES OUT. as i like to say, YOU JUST CAN'T FIX STUPID.

That hole has had great fish on it the past 20 years. It is the past 2 years that have been the problem.

Dang JT, Did you really mean it?? If that landmark hasnt been there but a couple of years, how did you ever find it?? I grew up fishing down there actually. Ive fished that side from the bridge all the way down. used to fish it on 14 ft john boat. You see me in a hole at St Marks, it may be yours but from Turkey Point to St Vincent, id have to argue with you. I had all the numbers we fished the other day in my GPS long before we ever got there. And ur right three or four years ago, before i knew you guys or a dang thang about a tournament, I never saw anyone there or anywhere east past the Shine Bar. Helk, I remember as a little boy, the bayou actually being deep enough to get a boat in in the back. Now, you stay yo azz off my holes!!!

Then you remember taking the ferry to St. George before the bridge was built and catchings reds and trout in the surf.
And you remember St. George when there was only one store.(in fact only two buildings on the island.)
And you remember the "local name" for the area we fished Sunday morning.(and why it was named that).
And you remember when Bob Sikes had the cut dredged for the shrimp boats.
And you remember catching flounder from the Martha Ann's dock.
And you remember catching trout from the Wilsons' pier.
And you remember catching reds at Green Point.
Dayum, didn't know you were that old, old man.
