I want to take the "Boss" lady out for a nice boat ride and find a place to beach the boat and swim.

I was thinking about putting in at Lanark and running to Dog Island, I have fished out of lanark, but I have never been close to Dog Island.

Is there a better spot to try this or a certain point that I should look for in order to pull up on land (or anchor just off the beach)?

There is also a great spot near the end of dog island where it meets St George island. The narrow strip of land there lets you swim in the bay, and just a few steps over to the gulf. Hardly any houses there. We have stayed all day there many times. It is one of the few places you can still go and be on a secluded beach almost all your own.

The water there is good for either beaching or anchoring and wading to shore.

PS: Not a secluded place during the White Trash Bash. (Memorial Day)

We put in at Lanark for the first time yesterday and noticed the north end of Dog Island to be a good looking spot and there were just a few folks there. In addition, we rode to the other end of Dog Island to the pass between it and Little St. George. We headed through the pass and trolled for some kings. The pass was pretty rough yesterday midday. Enjoy it down there -- wish I was there today.

Just remember that everything inside of the high water mark is privately owned or owned by the Nature Conservancy as a shorebird sanctuary. But you shouldn't have any problems along the beaches.

Most people anchor up off the west end. Watch the tides, I've seen many a boat stuck high and dry.

Thanks leesburgga, I thought it got pretty rough in there, sounds like you had a good time!

The cove Dubble talked about is where I go. It's on the opposite end of the island as the reef but closer to the pass between DI and SGI. I've ran over there in a 26' Contender and a 17' Bass Tracker. No matter what boat you have, you can easily get stuck on a low tide in that area so just watch out for that.

There's also some good redfishing in that area.
