How long do they hang around our area?

Any of you experts want to share some tips and techniques?

already gone Barry......

Naaaa...

I'm not your best resource, but I know migrating tarpon stay around IP/SVI through at least the early Sept.

Some holes in Oyster Bay hold tarpon year round.

I don't know much about the TP/Lanark tarpon.

Good luck!

Had one that I would guess was well over 4 ft (only saw it's back) roll just 30-40 ft from the boat last Saturday while fishing the NFGFC tournament. In fact, I threw a top water to it and caught a trout :D

While some do hang around in some locations in river in the cold months, for the most part you find them from May - Sept.

June - August, varying on location and whatever drives them (water temp I assume), the migratory fish move through.

What I would call the "locals" can be found moving as early as April and as late as Oct. They generally are the ones moving in an opposite direction of the migratory fish, West to East at Lanark for example.

I know some guides that move to this area for the migration are on this board, they might have more specific information. It's not like it's a secret anyone, its turned into Boca Grande at TP and Lanark. I've actually started fishing some different areas that you won't see a boat at, unfortunately the water clarity is generally dirtier for sight fishing, but it beats sitting close enough to other boats you can follow their conversations.

The last 3 times I've been out of St. Marks I saw a few rolling in the channel. They are out there but I don't know squat about how to catch them, other than what Dasher has told me.

(Yo, Barry - Wolfey here)

Dasher asked me how to do it!

I'm putting together a few live bait rigs and some bottom baits...
Just reread an old Florida Sportsman all about tarpon tactics.

I think I may have problems with Sharks picking up dead baits.
What the heck- that will be fun too.

Report will follow some time in the next week.

was scalloping in St. Joe Bay this weekend and went into a deeper hole hoping I could see some in the less thick grass. Since the may tourney most of the patchy bottom has turned into a thick carpet of grass. At any rate, swam within about 30 feet of a 4 footer. Took me a second to process and it scared the crap out of me until I realized what it was.
