CMC Jackplate

I have an ongoing problem with corrosion on the connectors to the (switches/fuses?). The wire leads plug into a plastic bracket and the (switches/fuses?) plug into the wire leads. The connections last about 3 months then corrosion builds up and jackplate won't work. This seems to be a weak way for electrical connections in a salt environment. Has anyone else had this problem?

Yep. Shoulda got a Bob's. That said, be sure to spray down with a heavy duty silicon after each use.

with the smart azz answer outnof the way...
I would solder all connections. Make the longest run of solid wire that you can without any type of splice. Heat shrink all connections then silicone( the heavy sealant kind) over that and any other connection, even at the terminal.

If you put all the relays and connections under your engine cowling they will be much better protected. I have a CMC jackplate on two different boats. When I moved the connections all my problems were solved.

Thanks for the help. I purchased the boat second-hand therefore the CMC unit. It appears the solution is placing the connectors under the engine cowling and soldering or electric tape (starbrite product) the connectors. If I lived closer I would join your club (live in Palatka). I fish at Steinhatchee and sometimes at Keaton. Boat is 18' Hewes w/90 horse merc.

Would you consider becoming President of the Palatka Chapter?
