New to the Area

I will be relocating to Gainesville in the next three weeks. I grew up in Pensacola Florida and have been fly fishing for inshore/nearshore species since 1991. I have been doing to research and it seems that the majority of fishing is from a boat. I am a landlock fisherman and was hoping to some advice about the bigbend area. Are their any areas where wading for reds and specks is possible? I have three toddlers so purchasing a flats boat isn't in the budget right now. Would a kayak give me better access to area flats? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I definitely recommend the yak if the flats boat is not in the budget. I'm not so familiar with the coast near Gainesville, but up here around Tallahassee and the surrounding coastlines, the yak provides a great vehicle to get close to many inshore fish. Good luck!

Cedar Key would be awesome in a yak! I went for a getaway and took my flats boat but the weather/tides didn't cooperate. Just driving around made me want a yak to play in all those bayous. Watch out for low tide though, when the water leaves it's GONE!
