It's harder in Nov and Dec to get live bait but you really don't need it. The fish are in a "fattening up" mode and will eat just about anything. Trolling is very effective during this time.

When the bait fish leave (some of them) in the cooler months the grouper are very aggressive and will go after trolled baits close in to shore. Nov and Dec have been my best months for catching Gag Grouper.

What are you calling "close in to shore"? I presume that you trolling with some stretch lures?

Around 30 foot for most places is close in

but over towards St. Marks and Aucila, 16 foot will easly get you some keepers around structure

I have only one around Mashes that is in less than 30 foot "it's around 25 foot and 6 miles out"

Strech 30 's braid line will get them to dive deeper.. line counter is a good tool ! Firetiger, chrome blue, redhead are excellent color schemes good luck

I agree. Fish this time of year are very active. Usually if you pull one trolling, you can leave him in the water (similar to dolphin fishing) and cast plugs around him. This can be done with Topwater plugs as well.

Things is bout to get fun.

Chuck is a trolling machine but...
I've heard from some that you can catch them ANY time of year, shallow or deep, "if you know how to fish them for that time of year"....
I wonder if my new shallow spot will be good as the water cools off? SHOULD be, right?

Preferred live bait in November/December are Squirrel fish a.k.a. sand perch.
All you have to do is drift off of your structer and send down cut squid to catch them on sand bottom, go back to your bouy, send them down, and hold on!!!
