10-1 Evening

Got out after work and put in at the lighthouse. I was surprised to see all the spanish mackerel in the mouth of the river. We stopped in the middle of the commotion and quickly got broken off. Tied back up and proceeded to catch numerous large jacks but could get a hook in the spanish. Almost had a couple jump in the boat. Had several break offs as well. The spanish were tearing up large schools of glass minnows all the way up until sunset around 7:30 or so. The jacks hit well into the dark. Once the tide slowed down at eight we started catching nice trout up to 22 inches. Lost one, after a really good fight, that hit about a seven inch mullet, by the head shakes and the way it was fighting my guess is a very large trout or an over slot red, but I'll never know and that one hurts. Only one small red for the evening. This was a really fun trip with all the action from the jacks, I would have sworn they were tarpon by the amount of water they would displace when striking our mullet under cajun thunders. Seemed one of us had a fish on at about all times. Do it again in a few days...
