10/18 Sightfishing the Surf on Foot / biggest red

It started as a crazy idea Saturday night around 12:30 am. Decided to go fish the beach because of the north wind on Sunday. Went to work sunday morning until 10:30, picked up someone bored enought to go with me, and headed to the coast at noon. Sightfished this pup after standing on the beach for about 3 minutes.

Started walking looking for more fish, and saw more. Picked up another one around 22" then kept looking. Then, there she came in about 2 feet of water, her tail breaking the surface every now and then. Thought it was a nurse shark at first. Put the fly in the right place, nothing. The fly wasn't big enough for her. Kept trying but no dice. Followed her about 40 yards down the bank casting, then told my buddy to grab the spinning rod. He put the jig in front of her, 5 different times, nothing. She turned around, started going the other way, and I tried with the spinning rod, several times, nothing. Finally she turned and ate 15 or 20 feet from the bank. After that fight on the 4000, I am somewhat glad she did not eat my fly. 42" Unbelieveable!
