Hello fellos I have a 23 ft trophy WAC with a 200hp mercury. My steering is giving me problems. When the boat is not moving the steering is very easy to turn but when ever the boat is moving at a good speed it is very hard to move the steering wheel to the right. turning left is no problem. What could be my problem and can I fix it myself? Thanks so much for your help..........................

Turn the back of the trim tab. the solver colored thing just behind the prop to the left 2 notches and try. You just have to try different setting till you get it corrected. If there is no trim tab, you'll need to purchase a new one from a Merc dealer.

If it were the trim tab, wouldn't the boat be pulling hard to port?

That was my thought as well Juan! I wonder if a bushing is worn or a bolt loose that is putting it into a bind when under pressure

My guess is it's the hydraulic fluid. I'm betting either the steering fluid is low or needs bleeding to remove an air pocket.

Is the steering cable or hydraulic?

That's a great question Bruce. It would be real hard to put fluid in a cable steering setup.
Sounds like a trim tab issue to me.

And a 23' Trophy WAC with a 200 would be a bitch to steer under any conditions with a cable system
