Just checking to see if anybody has a .270 or .243 that they would be willing to part with before this upcoming hunting season. I'm wanting to spend around $250 and would be willing to trade out detailing services or a combination of $$$ and services  Thanks!!!!

Just my 2 cents worth.. before you purchase a 270 look at the 25.06 ballistics.
is an awesome caliber. basically a necked down 30.06.
I have a 270 that was left to me by a friend that fell out of tree stand and was killed.
could not sell it for that reason. but don't like it either.
have 3 243 rifles, they are awesome as well..
however the 6mm is a 243 with a bit more powder.
if longer range is what you are looking for, checkout these 2 calibers before going with a 270..
had a friend that bought a 270 and went bear hunting and shot a bear up a tree.
shot it 5 times with 270 still didn't knock him out..
went back to truck, got 30.06 and first shot killed the bear.
sold the 270..

After 5 shots, you probably could have shot him with a .22 and he would have fell out! :-D

that bear was still very much alive and kicking after 5 270 rounds..
was pretty ticked off tho.
hounds kept him in the tree while he retrieved the 30.06.
have also tracked down a few deer for a friend that should not have moved a step after being shot with 270.
and still go several hundred yards..
some folks like the 270 and some don't..
I for one have seen enough evidence not to like it.

Hmmm, don't know that I would take a 270 bear hunting with factory loads, but I've seen little calibers drop big stuff. It is all about shot placement.

Exactly. I wouldn't trade a pickup truck load of 30.06's for my .270.

Another good deer rifle you may want to consider is the 7mm-08. just my .02

My hunting buddy shoots the 7mm. I'm looking for a rifle for my 15 year old. I shoot a .280 and have never had a deer run when hit with this rifle. I also shoot a 22/250 and dropped a nice buck last year with it. Hit him right dead in the shoulder and he dropped right where he stood....never even twitched  It truly is ALL about shot placement

All the deer we shoot are usually within 60 yards of the stands, so a bigger caliber rifle is not needed.

7mm-.08 is a LOT different than a 7mm. A good lite recoil round for women and young kids is the 25-06.

I'm looking for a rifle for my 15 year old.
Looks like no one here has anything for sale, just comments on which is better or not.
I have a youth model remington bolt action in 243. I can shoot it with one hand.
my daughter has been using it for several seasons now and has taken some impressive bucks and hogs. one buck from over 250 yrds. she is 5'10" The weight of the gun is why she is able to use it.
if your 15 year old is not real tall. check into the youth model.
even if he/she gets 6' tall the will still be able to shoot this model.
they have doubled in price since I purchased mine about 7 yrs ago
for under $400 new

not gonna argue about shot placement,as I know you can't shoot much of anything in the foot with any kind of gun and drop it in their tracks. the bear being described was a florida bear not a Grizzly or big browny.. and the man behind the trigger was one of the best shots I have ever had the opportunity of hunting with. once saw him take an empty soda can at about 30 yds and first shot put can in the air at about 4 or 5 ft. high the can never touched the ground for the entire 5 shots with a open sight 30.06. same gun that knocked the bear out of this tall "Apalachicola national forest" pine tree. those 5 shots with the 270 were all into the vitals. surely the bear would not of survived and at some point in time fell dead out of the tree..

Lemme throw my 2 cents in...I don't own a 270 but with a decent 150 gr bullet, there's nothing in the lower 48 that you can't stop with it..As for a bear, a head, neck or heart shot is gonna put him on a tailgate in short order if you hit him right. I have a 338 Win mag that won't stop one immediately if you don't hit him in a vital spot.. know several people that use 270's and it's a deadly chambering. All this being said, I wish I had a 280 Rem...Basically same ballistics as 270.

For a kid, the 7mm 08 is tough to beat. Plenty of knock down for a deer with little recoil.
