I seen one in store the other day and thought be nice to have if it accully works, however dont wanna waste $40 on a rod and real set up if the real just sucks with a light on it. Ive looked up some reviews and they seem to be good but one thing I cant find, has anyone tried these in saltwater? I know this will never work on the surf or in high swells but for dock and bay fishing if it works would be nice.

Any $40 rod/reel combo will last 1-2 saltwater fishing trips.
Spend a few bucks. Take care of your reel and enjoy years of saltwater fishing.
I am very rough on my equipment and still get 5 plus years out of it.

Does look like for freshwater catfishing/fishing with kids would be fun/helpful, but can't say past experiences with zebco quality make me ready to run out and spend my money...

My two favorite combos are both from WalMart: Shakespeare Tiger and Contender. I've got 2 of each that are 5 years old and used EXCLUSIVELY in salt water. I think I've rinsed them off a few times, but that's all I've done to them and they work great. They aren't pretty anymore, but they all still catch fish!

At $40 each, it's worth a shot, right? You never know!!!
