Need some locations/directions to public landings around the Carabelle, Sopchoppy, Panacea area; those areas are a little east of where I do most of my fishing and I need to explore it a little.

Timber Island, Carabelle

Lanark Village Boat Club on Hwy 98--$10 per launch.

Ocholockonee River State Park, fee or annual pass

Rock Landing--Panacea--free ramp

Mashes Sands--Wakulla County public ramp

There are others OD, but those will get you started.

Carrabelle Timber Island ramp. Turn at The Carrabelle Boat Club and go to the end of the road. Go to Water Street and find the new ramp at the end of the street.
Panacea at the west end of the Ocklochnee bridge.
Mashes Sands ramp down Mashes Sands rd at the BP and Angelos Restaurant.
The Rock Landing Ramp on Rock Landing rd in Panacea.
Bottoms rd ramp at the end of the road.
They all lead to my fishing holes.

Thanks guys, I'll try to find those next week. I had planned a 3 day trip to Apalachicola for some more trout fishing but it's gonna be breezy for the next few days so thought I'd do some exploring further east. Now to try to find those places on a map.

As Ida approaches Monday the overall water level should rise 1 to 3 feet along the Gulf coast from central Louisiana east to Apalachicola, Florida with a narrow area of a 3 to 6 foot rise from the mouth of the Mississippi River north to the Louisiana/Mississippi border Monday.

On top of that water rise waves of 16 to 22 feet are expected from Mobile Bay east to Destin, Florida by Monday afternoon. Waves from just east of Destin east to Mexico Beach (southeast of Panama City) could reach 12 to 15 feet. The waves along the islands off the Mississippi and Louisiana coasts and from Mexico Beach south to Apalachicola, Florida could reach 8 to 12 feet.

High waves (up to 7 to 10 feet) are expected along the Texas coast and the Atlantic coast of Florida Monday due to strong easterly winds in both locations.

The Local Kayak forum has a good list of landings- some are Kayak only but you can find a lot of the ones named above on it...

Just recieved and email from Old Dogs blackBerry (pretty high tech for an old guy ) and he says the storm didn't affect fishing much went out yesterday afternoon and this morning and caught a nice batch of trout an slot reds! Apalach I think.

Some friends invited us down to Apalachicola for a couple of days and even though we knew there was storm on the way we had hopes that it wouldn't be severe, and if we couldn't fish maybe we could scout out some fishing territory over Carabelle way.

On our way to Carabelle we stopped by the 10' Hole (the ramp under the bridge in downtown Apalachicola) and this is what we saw.

The ride over to Carabelle was breezy and a little wet with spray kicked up over the highway in places by the strong winds coming out of the south. I had printed out the very fine directions to landings that several of you gave me on here and stuck them in my glove compartment, but sadly, we made the trip over to Carabelle in my friends truck so I will have to use them on my next trip in a few weeks.

After we got back to Apalachicola and had lunch with the ladies the weather improved enough so that we could put the boat in the water and go hunt trout. With the wind still gusting and with scattered showers in the area we were limited in where we could go but the Apalachicola Delta provides many places to hide from the weather and we found a couple of them, and we managed to find some fish too.

My friend Michael picked up this keeper red on a pearl Gulp. With the measuring stick lost on the boat (later found) he decided a beer bottle might give a good reference to the size of the fish.

I managed to find some trout and reds too. Here's the Old Dog with a 21 in trout and red. Both caught on pearl Gulps.

Our tally for Tuesday afternoon came to 8 trout (6 keepers) and 2 slot reds, and this morning (Wednesday) we got 6 trout (5 keepers) and 2 more slot reds.

We really didn't think the fishing would be as good as it was with the wind, rain, and high water, but persistence paid off. And I guess it also helped a little that these two old coots have been fishing these waters regularly together since 1973.
