11-11-09 Veteran's Day

My buddy Seth and I both had Veteran's Day off, so we decided to go fishing even though the forecast called for 20+ mph winds. We woke up to find that the winds had died down quite a bit, and the rain was mostly gone. The forecast now called for 6-8 mph winds. Woohoo!!!
We were fishing up a creek by 8:00. We worked our way pretty far up the creek, picking up only one under-slot trout along the way. After a while, we decided that the weather was cooperating, so we headed out onto the flats. Seth picked up a barely legal redfish pretty quick and then started catching trout. After a couple hours, seth had his five trout and one redfish to my one trout.
I've been trying to break myself of my Gulp addiction, so I was throwing everything I had in my tacklebox, but I broke down and used a Gulp jerk shad to catch my one trout (hey, at least it wasn't the shrimp).
We moved back up into a different creek looking for some bigger fish. I was out of jerk shads because the blackfish kept stealing the tails, so I put on the old trusty Gulp 4" shrimp (New Penny). I was rewarded shortly with an 18 inch trout. Seth followed with one more 18 incher and I hooked an under-slot redfish before returning to the ramp.
We ended up with 8 trout and one redfish. We got drizzled on a couple of times, but that's one of my favorite kinds of weather to fish in. I'm glad we decided to go despite the forecast!
