I took advantage of the 2ft or less forecast and took a day off from my real job along with 4 of my buddies to head out to catch some snapper before the season closes. We left the the dock around 7 and loaded the live well with pinfish, they are still plentiful on Dog Island Reef, and made the 1.5 hr run out to 100ft. Once there, we had a good bite almost all day, moving around to several different spots. If we dropped live bait we hooked up with grouper but squid or cut LY's produced snapper. Around lunch, decided to check out the Exxon wreck, unfortunately, there was a couple of boneheads diving it without a flag. We thought something was wrong when we first pulled up because we couldn't see anybody onboard and saw no indication of divers. It wasn't until we pulled up close to check it out that we noticed bubbles coming up that they were down. Anyway, we pulled off and went to the S-Tower and hooked up with some nice red snapper in the 10-12 lb range. We only managed to get one of those bad boys to the boat as the barracuda were having a field day with them. Left there to try a new number in 95 ft and ended the day with a nice grouper bite. Headed in about 4 with the wind picking up out of the SW and got back to the dock about 6, cleaned up and back home around 8. An excellent day off from work. The final tally was 17 grouper to 14lbs , 11 snapper to 12 lbs, a few triggerfish, some grunts and one nice seabass. We released at least twice that many shorts. The seas were gracious most of the day, the water out there is beautiful, the bait was live pinfish, squid, and LY's. The water temp. was about 73. Cuda "B" ran perfect and everybody had a blast.
Life is short, Fish hard!
