Haven't done any inshore stuff in a year, but had the hankering to do some fishing and with closures and such it is too far to go to fish just one day so my good friend, David and my son decided to do a quick trip for some trout and redfish. Left Macon around 0330 and put in the Aucilla around 0800 Sat. Cool breeze out of the NW made it feel more like duck hunting weather than fishing weather. We fished some spots in the marsh, then hit some bars at the mouth, then it the flats. Scared up one strike on a Gulp and that was it. Went back in the river stopping at any hole we found, nada. Did get a good dinner in and had the lights out for three snoring fishermen by 2000.

With cloudy skies and remembrances of few bites on Sat. we almost packed it in and left, but decided since it was warmer than Sat with little to no wind, we'd try St. Marks area for a while. Ran to the mouth of the river and hit several bars. Nary a strike. Finally around 1030, I caught a 13 incher off an oyster bar on a Gulp. Nothing followed. About 30 minutes later, I picked up a small suspending Mirrolure, threw it toward another bar and wham! Trout was just short, but they started hitting like mad. Seemed like every cast for a bit, I either caught a fish or at least had a strike. Many short strikes were followed up quickly with a hookup. We counted around 35 to 40 fish to the boat. Most were 13-14 7/8 inch fish but was a ton of fun. 9 made it to the live well. Largest was only 17.

It was a great day. I have never caught so many fish on hard baits. Will have to do a little more of this cold wether fishing.

Never did find any Reds.
