Son Brett :smt004 pulled the trigger :smt068 today on his new custom inshore rod from Matthew's Fisnin' Stix. :smt023

The rod :smt055 is an 8-foot, medium power, fast action, titanium Fuji guides wrapped with Leon Lion :smt049 Red, Aero seat, split-grip with cobra skin inlay below his name and football number.

He mated it to an Okuma V-System 6.2:1 spinning reel spooled with 30-lb Sufix braid. :smt112

He consistently casted a 1-oz jig between 69 and 72 yards. :smt101

Is that a long way? :smt102

Luv casting them 8 footers.
You can really lay the wood to em too when you get them on the hook.

With the way that blank loads, once you get that hunk o' lead started, it'd be hard to stop.
But yeah, that's a long way. Just remember, the further you throw it the further you got to reel it back in.

I can usually cast that with a 7 1/2 rod with a spinning reel with 20 pound braid. I have gotten over 100 with a strong wind to my back. THe way you can tell is the line goes all the way to the backing.

Long cast are relevant. One time a surf caster cast over the old astodome. Surf casters are legendary long casters and have actual competition.
Figue in line size + lure weight + rod length + ability = distance.

and umm, which hurricane were you fishing in?

Long casts are great, but if you have to cast that far, you have the wrong type of boat in that part of the water; of course unless you're surf casting. But from a boat? ehhhhhhhhhhh' just all IMO

7 foot rod with a spinner and 17# mono, can cast a top dog a good 50 or 60 yards or better :o This can be verified by Sea Gurl "if she can remember that fer back" :-D and the reason to cast that far from a boat is to reach that fish that just struck the top of the water 60 yards away :smt004
