Weather as usual was not quite as forecast. Cloudy all morning and windier than they said, but blowing offshore so it wasn't bad. Wife found me someone for me to fish with (husband of her friend). That sounds sad now that I think about it. Anyway, we caught a good limit by 1100 with 2 24" fish. Also caught a 27.000001" redfish that completely engulfed my plug. He was 27". 7 3/4 lbs. Nice fish. Bite stopped with tide and then started again around 1330. We left at 1400 with 'em chewing plugs. Renegades, Redfins, my favorite way to catch trout. Really eating them too. Not just caught by the rear hook. Bites when under the surface or floating, didn't matter. One of the better days I can remember, damn sure better than any I had last year.
Radio chatter indicated that others in area were doing OK too and that the bite slowed for most when the tide died. Heard of some fishing creeks with nada. Fish we caught were outside the bars from 2-3 ft. Over 3 ft not many bites. Water was 57-59 degrees, warmer than I've heard.

Does anyone know why Poppa Jim's in Perry went out of business? That sight almost ruined my good day.

Buddy took a couple of pics, is it easy to put them in the report? I'm pretty computer literate, but not as much as most. I always end up telling myself I need to take more pictures while fishing, it's just hard to when it's going off.

I was down in the Spring Warrior area this weekend driving around. Is the ramp at the end of Spring Warrior the only public access ramp in that area? How far of a ride to the flats from the ramp.

Nice catch. I should have went with you. I absolutely hate putting in at the warrior. Mainly because it takes me 20-30 minutes to unpucker from the ride out of the river. I put it at Keaton and make the 10 minute run up there. keaton is about 15-20 minutes further East but a much more pleasant boatiing experience.

When I had the Scandy the Warrior was a piece of cake. I gotta get another tunnel.

We went out of Keaton. I timed it and it took me 15 minutes WOT to get to the no wake at Keaton from the tripod. If you're doing it in 10 you're moving. I have a Carolina Skiff. I guess it's 7 miles. I don't mind the ride at all. I've put in at the warrior only once and that was about 5 years ago. We used to fish in a canoe and I remember paddling past a skiff on the way back in because it was so low. Chugbug I might try to swing one more trip this week (restrictions being work, wife, etc.) so come on. I'm out for the weekend though. I don't see any big weather changes so I know they'll still be eating.

Curious - what is a Renegade? Also which Red Fin do you like? There are 4-5 models of those. What color do you find works best?

Renegade was a made for Walmart lip bait lure.
Walmart owns the design patent,but the lure is no longer available.

Yeah, everyone was hot on Renegades a couple of years ago. They're OK, cheap. I've put new split rings and hooks on all of mine. I'll tell you this-their paint jobs last longer then the Redfins. I use the Ripplin' Redfins (floating) and was using gold that day but use chrome too. The gold wears off after 4-5 fish and then you have a white plug.

Give me all your white ones.

I have had that problem with He Dog and She Dogs. I started spraying a couple of coats of clear poly on them before I use them and they hold up well.

I'll have to give the Red Fins a try next time I am down.

Bass Pro has a lure marketed under their XPS series that is almost identical to the Renegade. About a dollar more and they hold up fairly well.............. except for the hardware. Bought a couple last year, changed out the hardware, and still use them occasionally.
