Carrabelle Area, fresh water rivers

I have a friend that was planning a trip toward the end of March. Last year he went to the Okefenokee Swamp and loved the fishing from a small john boat.
I was telling him how the Crooked and New Rivers, North of Carrabelle, looked much like the waters inside the Swamp.

I don't want anyone to give away any secret fishing holes, but would those waters be worth him spending some time?
He mainly fishes for the pan fish and cats.

He could stay at my place and just explore a different section each day. It appears there is a bunch of launches up the New River inside the NF and Tates Hell.

Anyone have any knowledge of those streams?

Hey Mac.. When we moved to Carrabelle in '02, CA and I fished the Crooked River from Hwy 67 in both directions, but mostly east to the Ochlockonee. It's scenic and looks very fishy. Lots of critters, gaters, turtles and birds can be observed but, we never had much luck with the fishing...just picked up a few bream here and there was about it.
'Don't know anything about the New River, but local folks talk about catching lots of bream over there. I never gave it a try.
I probably don't have to tell you, the bugs will tote you away in the summer time. Bring deet for shore.

Sorry, I can't be more help. Good luck with it. :D

I've caught and released a few bass fishing at some of those landings from the bank.

Don't forget Cash Creek. Its only a few miles west and has some good freshwater launches off of Hwy. 65.
