Anyone going after them anytime soon?

Wow nobody. I guess I better not either. Just looking for tips. Gonna try it for the first time this year.

I was planning a trip to the pass over here in St. Andrews Bay the first or second weekend in March. By then I would think they should be thick at the rocks. Fidler crabs and small live shrimp are the ticket to a full cooler. Only tip I would give you is to hide the hook by threading it into the shrimp. It will kill the shrimp but it does not seem to matter, freshness is the key. Sheepshead are amazing in their ability to steal bait. I like a small khale hook. Good luck.

ive caught them pretty decently lately in the st.marks and wakulla rivers. find some rocks or shell on the bottom and go at it.
ive been using small 1/4oz. jig heads and freshly dead shrimp. no limits of themor anything... but a few good keepers and no gas wasted! lol

If you dont mind me asking. How did you rig for them and what tips can you offer. Thanks. We are going to try it at the end of the month.

Anchored up just off the structure, rigged a live shrimp on a jig head, heavy enough to get it down, (add a small weight if current). Used 2500 Stradic size reels for some god rod bending. They are quick, so get ready to pull it on up at the first touch or be prepared to re-bait.
Oh, and get an electric knife for afterwards.

Do they stay around the structure as opposed to on it? What tide stage is best or time of day?

Keep a eye on the weather in March-early April, and be ready to go when the weather is good enough to run out to the reef - prefer 5-10 knots wind from the East. We can buddy boat and I will show you the ropes; rigging, bait, spots etc..... As to how to set the hook on them bad boys, check out how Calvin does it from my old post.

You can fill out a leave request form on March 1, but leave the date blank. The first day we encounter 5 knots or less wind forecast (again, prefer if its from the East) is the day we'll hit the reef. Disclaimer: unless it happens to be the day that I have to teach...... in which case, we'll move it to the 2nd day of the month where the wind forecast is 5 knots or less. I wont go before March because if the weather man lie, we're stuck with chasing for one redfish, which IMO not worth the 3 hr drive.

I can't go during the week. Does it have to be on the full moon. And what tide stage is best?

I'd love too. The problem is it looks like Sunday's are the only day possible for a while with other stuff scheduled. I saw a post on GON that said the sheep's were there. Saturday looks like a good day.
