need gift suggestion

Father in law's birthday is next weekend and as always I have no idea what to get him. He has everything I have and tons I don't. He fishes off shore out of Destin on a 27 footer and has the gear for that. He does a little inshore for trout/reds. Hunts for deer and hogs and seems to have everything for that. What's that special piece of equipment you can't live without or would love to have?

Kevin's Sporting Goods is running a good sale on hunting gear and clothing.

One cool thing I saw was a camo "shade chair". Sort-of a blind built around a folding chair.

Get him a pair of sos-penders. Or maybe a new rain suit or something like that. Its always nice to get things that you wouldn't buy for yourself.

SeaTow is a good one!

I always love a good pocket knife or Fillet knife- you can never have too many.
Maybe something custom or semi custom?

A new emergency kit- Flairs and a back up hand bilge pump.

Or a SPOT emergency locater?

a back up hand bilge pump.
One day when you have nothing to do,put the water hose in your boat and turn it on.
Once you get enough water to pump, start using your hand pump.
Leave the hose running.
See who gets tired first just before you would sink.
In fact, use your electric bilge for the same test.

If you are taking on water and your boat will run,the best option is remove the boat plug, get on plane and run. As long as you are running the water will run out. Just maybe not as fast as it runs in.

I have used this method before! You need to be quick with the plug insertion when you stop, fer sure! :-D

I've got a buddy who had an electric bilge burn out two hours off shore. They could not get the boat on plane with the amount of water in the hull.
Had to make a maday call- Marine Patrol took them in and and Seatow came for the boat from Carabell.
Before SeaTow got there someone has stripped the boat clean. Thief probably heard the Maday call on the radio.
Thankfully they had insurance.

A hand pump may have got enough water out to get them on plane... I will not go out without one.

Thanks for the ideas guys, keep 'em coming. I'm sure everyone has this problem every holiday and birthday. I like the custom "something" idea so far.

If he fishes off shore a custon gaff would be pretty cool. Or a custom inshore fishing rod. You'd be hard pressed to have it done in time but you give him a card and say it was being built.

I know a guy that can handle that.

Check out a custom inshore rod by Matthew Jacobs (unless you don't want to get out-fished).
