Help me fill my tacklebox

I was picking up some stuff from basspro tonight and I was looking at tackle for the upcoming trip. I plan to pick up gold spoons, cajun thunders, mirrorlures, and yes some gulps too. I was just curious if you guys had some suggestions on mirrorlure colors and perhaps some tackle that I am missing? I also plan to pick up some live scrimps too while I'm down there. Thanks for the help.

I would add the following -

A super spook in baby trout color
A Top Dog in both baby trout and bone
A gold Redfin
A Chug Bug

Those are the ones I can think of without going to get my tackle box.

Good luck - Steve Stinson

Colors- I like Mullet imitations- Silver with green back, Silver with Pink Back, or bone.

Buy GOOD jig heads... Pick up some Slayer Heads at Jerry's Bait and Tackle on your way down.

Dont forget top water:
Super Spook

Chug Bug

I also like jerk baits rigged on a jig head or no wight and a bass worm hook.

If you do a lot of bass fishing you will probably have a good selection of trout/redfish lures already. 99% of the time I am fishing one of the following baits - most of which are also used for bass fishing:

1. Soft plastic jerk baits (5-6 inch) - pink, white/glow, chicken, new penny
2. Soft plastic swim baits (same colors)
3. In-line spinner bait
4. Walk-the-dog topwater (spooks, skitterwalks, mirrolures)
5. Shallow suspending hard twitch baits (rapalas and mirrolures)

Having a few of the above will allow you to catch fish under any situation. Good luck!

All excellent suggestions. I do bass fish so I have plenty of soft swim bait like flukes. I see where the guys on Flats Class use Coffee tubes and football jigs a lot for trout and redfish. I have them so I thought I'd give them a shot also.

Funny how you can get hooked on a plug or lure and then move on...

I have duplicates of several topwaters I never fish anymore.
Back when Nuclear Chicken and Space guppy were hot I got 100 of each from Saltwater Assassin... now the leftovers just sit on a shelf.

If you have confidence in a topwater lure throw it!!

I still most of a Tom Mann soft plastics box that I bought over 10 years ago. Looked good at the time for the price turned out to be a bunch of junk. Just can't seem to bring myself to throw them away. :-?

Gold green and silver, have a topwater, sub-surface and jerkbait in all three of those colors. Those, along with some soft plastice (both shrimp and shad imitations in several color combinations) and spoons should cover 99% of all fishing situations on the flats in this area. Just try to match the bait to what they are feeding on. Right now, they are not feeding on shrimp, they are however eating plenty of small mullet, pinfish and whatever other kind of baitfish are in the area.

SUPER SPOOK, CHUG BUG!! Gotta have 'em, especially in about a month!! I have always preferred "new penny" gulp, it has never let me down! And I'll be honest, when i started fishin the flats about 8 years ago I always used "Cajun Thunder" but its rare to catch me using one now, im a bottom jiggin guy! Get some good jig-heads i wanna say that "King Striker" makes some good ones! The paint will not flake!! They are awesome!! Get you some good gold and silver spoons for those reds! I have really good luck this time of year with "New Penny" "Gulp" about 16" under a "Cajun Thunder"! But best of luck to you brother!!
