St. Marks/Auchilla 3/12

Luanched at the St. Marks Ft. first thing Saturday morning to fish the small window of opportunity before the winds set in. Fished the shallows for Reds for a couple of hours with no luck. Only saw 2 tails and had one follower but no strikes. As the tide began to pump in we made our way just East of Grey Mare rock and began fishing the rock grass with topwater and flukes. By this point the wind was blowing a solid 20kts and with brought some nice sized waves with the incoming tide.
We put a 2 person limit of trout in the boat from 11am to 12:30pm and had to leave before the tide change before things got really bad. The wind started of from the WNW in the morning and was blowing from the SSW on our way in. We took an honest arse whooping all the way in and it didn't stop once we hit the St. Marks river. At times the gusts were so strong that it took all my expertise
to keep the boat in between the green and red.
We made it back safely with a cooler filled with fish, but my back still aches from the ride. The fishing is begining to really pick up in the areas mentined. I think by next weekend we will see water temps in the mid 60s..... as "Scotty" from Jerrys would say, "let the flats EXPLOSION" begin.
