Keaton Beach 3/20

Have not been fishing since Sept and couldn't wait any longer to get on the water (last minute decision Friday afternoon to go). Took the 18' Grizzly to Keaton yesterday. Was second in line at the Marina to get the boat craned into the water. Was picking up some stuff in the Marina store (waiting for enough light to employ the crane) when I ran into BreamBuster, DDB and Calvin. Talked for a couple minutes then we all headed out in different directions. I fished south first thing in the morning. Got in shallow and about 15 minutes in I hooked, then quickly released a nice trout on a jerk bait. Got no love on top water. Fished that area for about 30 more minutes then headed north. Fished north of Yates creek in shallow water. Saw a nice 20+" trout swim under the boat......threw top water about 20 yards in front, but he was not interested. Weird thing happened, was in about 2 foot of water throwing a gulp jerkbait, got the bait about 20 feet from the boat and a nice trout was kind of mouthing it, but not eating it, got it closer and he simply followed it. When he saw the boat, he just swam slowly away. Strange.

Decided to go a little deeper (bout 4-5 foot). Threw a Catch 2000 and managed to pick up 2-16". Made a couple more drifts and nothing. Managed one more 16" in about 5 foot of water. Decided to call it a day. Headed in. Was cleaning my fish at the table just in time to talk to BreamBuster. They did pretty good, but I'll leave that for BB and Dave to tell.

No pics, sorry.

Oh, by the way. It great day on the water. Weather was beautiful. Can't wait to get back.

Thanks for the report Ron. Nice meeting you! What color Catch 2000 did you get the hits on?

Dave,
Mullet colored with green back. Worked it really slow. Got a couple aggressive hits on it. One trout missed it about 3 times. Could see him swining and missing. Stopped the bait, twitched and finally hooked him.

That the one with the silver or gold sides? Gold seams to be a hot color in the stained water.

Dave,
Silver sides. I don't have one with gold sides, but won't be long before I do. :D
