Took advantage of the beautiful Saturday and headed out. We launched at the St. Marks Lighthouse and headed East to Aucilla to fish the early morning high tide. Made our way down the shoreline throwing topwater, the first fish we landed was a healthy 23.5" trout and the second was a tad bit larger. We put one more 18" fish in the boat before we had to move out a tad to avoid getting grounded. We moved back to the West to see about a red or two. We found some fish, but they were schooled up rather than tailing. This always makes them a bit more difficult to catch but we were determined to put the girls on some fish.

We approached multiple schools (roughly 20 to 30 fish per school) but they would scatter as soon as I hit the trolling motor. After trying this method 3 or 4 times with no success we decided to push through them and set up a drift back into them. This proved to be the key. We landed 2 reds, one was 28"s and the other 29"s and had a few more blow ups.

The girls got to hear the drag and feel the pull so it was a successful day in my book. The water temp was 60 when we left around noon and 57 when we caught the trout first thing. The bite wasn't great, but it wasn't poor either. If we had more time to fish the high tide I believe that we could have put more trout in the boat.
