Spending a few days over spring break on the Choctawhatchee bay just north of the 331 bridge. I want to take my 2 boys (13/14) and my 7 year old nephew out to catch a few fish. Can anyone point me at some spots that we could try for some trout/reds/flounder etc. I will be on the water near Mullet Bayou/LaGrange Bayou.

Here is a link to the area I will be in.

I know this is alittle out of our area, but any info is greatly appreciated. Not looking for anyones secret spots of course, just some ideas on where to target. I have never been there before and its a big bay :)

I am no expert at fishing those waters but I have fished that area a few times. To the east of the 331 bridge where the river flows into the bay you should find both reds and trout. Just as anywhere, reds will be up in weeds. The trout may still be up in the river but I would also look for them on the fringe of the bay since we have had this warm weather. If you have a mullet net you might want to take it. I have seen some giant schools of mullet on the south side of the bay east of the 331 bridge. That area is famous for guys who catch mullet on rod and reel using a dry dog food that floats for bait. I suspect you might find some sheepshead and black drum on the 331 bridge pilings if you get some live shrimp.

Thanks FlatCrazy, looks like the back of the bay where the many river splits come in would be a good place to find some bars to try also.

When they built the new bridge they left the old one up to fish from. I remenber catching some good flounder and croakers from the bridge years ago. If nothing else pans out for you, you could try the bridge with your boys.

Thanks Dixie, that may be the best idea yet, especially if there is too much chop on the bay.

I'm not sure what month of the year crabbing is best. We crabbed in the Northeast corner many times when I was young. Flashlights, simming trunks and couple of dipping nets make for a fun time for kids after dark.

Got a top spot map of the area, I am wondering what on of the locations on the map is. Does anyone know what the "Drop into the ICW" is? I know its the intercoastal waterway canal they are talking about but is their a lock there or something?
