First Day Of Grouper Season And???

I took my father out today to try and catch some grouper and then hopefully some trout in the afternoon. Unfortuately, our fishing success wasn't that great. We managed two rock bass and one shark. By the time we got in close enough to the hill to try and catch some trout, the wind was howling pretty good. We covered a lot of area from south of Ochlockonee Bay, east past the lighthouse. Several stops on some old holes, but nothing doing for us today. We did have a group of guys troll by us as we were bottom fishing and they were asking how we were doing while trolling, all the while one of their rods was bent over. I hollered out to them that they had a fish on and sure enough, it was their first keeper of the day. I guess we should get half a credit for that one :D :D ...........

Either way it was a great day out on the water with my father   , we don't get too many days out together anymore due to life getting in the way most of the time.

Did anybody else have any success with the grouper or trout.

Chris

I've heard most grouper reports were slim pickens, except for one guy I know did good.

My buddy with the offshore boat took off to Alabama to go turkey hunting over the weekend! I didn't get to go yet. We did some pre-season scouting a couple weeks ago, It looked good in fairly shallow (25-35 feet).

For the most part, I haven't heard of any great reports, outside of the fella that said they went to 75 foot of water and got on them. I heard there were some shorts out there but nothing to them. We hit inshore on Saturday and caught some fine trout over near Lanark. Maybe the grouper bite will come on before to long.

Left Econfina ramp Saturday around 8:00 AM - myself, Frank Bradfield, Tom Keels, my new bud Jackson Keels and Sammy the Grouper Dog.. Water a little choppy. Emptied pinfish trap we had stocked the day before while trout fishing. Fished all day between 25 and 35 foot. Totral 1 bull red, 1 Goliath, 5 keeper gags, several throwback gags, a few throwback red grouper. Almost all fish caught on bottom with live pinfish (what else is there?). 2 or 3 caught trolling. Waiting on pictures from Frank and Tom. I had one video on my camera below. Fun day. Jackson is the man. I have never seen a 9 year old with as much skill, patience, maturity and energy. I hope he comes back soon. :D

Live bait was the trick. When it ran out, the bite ran out. We tried LY's, dead pinfish, cut bait and squid.

Me, my cousin, my brother and my Grandfather launched from St. Marks last saturday at about 10:15. We went about 30 miles out in 30-33 feet of water, we then started fishing with squid. My Grandfather caught 1 puffer fish and I caught a baby grouper, this went on as we moved multiple places and did some trolling too (no luck). We then anchored near Dog Ballard Reef at about 4. We continued to catch many small grouper and me and my brother caught a few keeper sea bass. We headed in at 6.
