Congrats Sube! But it seems things have gone down hill. Don't the reports generally come from folks who fish out of boats?

I got to ask Why do people call a Soft jerk bait rig a Ty Smith Rig?? is it because the size of bait, color or the hooks used, because I have know these have been around scenes the early 90's

Because Captain Tye Smith gave us a learnin one night at an NFGFC meeting and thats what we call it, the Tye Smith Rig. By the way, the reports I send in are not just yak reports, and I send them to Capt Hagaman and he reads them still. They didn't divide the area up to add us. They have talked about it but it would end up being a 2 hour show if they added our region and one or two more that are pretty big. So look for the Northwest Region to include reports from me, from ya'll. There are some NFGFC club tournament results mixed in with some boat reports.

The funny thing is spelling the names of the rivers like Econfina (Eee-ko-phee-nah) and Aucilla (Aw-sill-ah) phonetically so they can pronounce them. Of course we don't have it as bad as that Chokoloskee, or Lake Pontchartrain. But if you want to see your pics or reports on the air forward them to me at jeffsuber@yahoo.com or post them up and I'll read them off bigbendfishing.net

Yes, for the reasons above.

Here is a little history of this bait. I had been throwing a 5" soft jerk bait for a while and hooking them the way CaptKeyser said. One day in the store I see these big 7" jerk baits, I think of how much further they should cast and being able to throw them agaist the wind when around structure. The first day I threw one I was fishing with Michael. I didn't tell him about them I just started throwing them. After about five cast Michael said, What is that? I showed it to him and he said was wondering why your bait was going so far. As for as the way I hook it, that is so I can throw it further with out the bait curling up on the hook.

Of course I didn't name it. That work was done by those on this forum.

Lots of fish have come over the side of my boat with a Ty Smithed jerkbait in their faces. I love it. I will always call it the Ty Smith rig.

OK. I give up>
How is the hook used in the Ty Smith jerk-bait?
What kind/model/brand of hook and size?

I think its just a worm hook rigged through the nose of the bait.
