4/12 Cobia II

Got an invite to chase some cobia and couldn't turn it down...this is like sight casting to reds on steroids. Way too much fun....I love it.

We headed out around 1200 and zigged and zagged for about three hours before we saw the first group of fish. Fish were on my side and I dropped the jig right in the honey pot and the ol' girl crushed it. She had a partner but we had some technical difficulties to deal with and wanted to land this fish....Fought her about five minutes and convinced Ricky to take her.... she came over the side and the line broke...but she was in the boat.

High fives and we are back on the hunt - ended up seeing about six more fish and only had shots on three more. Hooked up on one but the jig came loose after a short battle. I"m loving this and greatly appreciate the invite Ricky

Half Hitch has plenty of cobia jigs...2-3 oz in most any color will produce results - something like this - http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/store ... 00_151-4-0

Slayer, favorite jig of mine is a circle hook with one of these hanging on it.

Chalk - Are you hurling any flys in their general direction?

Wondering the same exact thing, Chalk. My buddy (posts under Sharkman) hooked a nice one on fly and the fight he was given is one of my most vivid Big Bend area fishing memories.

Will warn messing with the cobes can cause challenges with the other species. Fished trout and reds the first 5 years I lived in FL then I made the mistake of catching a keeper cobe... now the trout and reds are my fall back plan for when the weathers too tough to chase cobes and hunt for groupas! :-D
