Hey fella's, i'm heading out to the flats nears St Marks light house Saturday on the pontoon boat. I'm interested to learn what rig you guys are using out there fishing for Trout and Red Fish?
So far we have been hit and miss with just shrimp and squid. I picked up some of the GULP lures that I am going to try for the first time and see what happens. Any suggestions would be appreciated, i'd like to catch more trout and red fish then sting rays this time LOL

Pitch those gulp on a 1/4 oz jig or put that jig 2-3' under a oval cajun thunder float is a good start. As the water warms shrimp or squid will mostly catch you catfish.

Put your Gulp 18 inches under a Cajun Thunder and stay off my fishing holes.

I can confirm the gulps. I had good luck on live shrimp, circle hook, and popping cork too. Those work best on JT51's holes though.

Grub 18" under a cork is about as good as you can do...I use Salt Water ASSassins myself..Gulps do good too....

If your coming out of the lighthouse I would turn East and go about 3.5 miles and start fishing in the 3'-4' of water with the CT cork and gulp you should load up on meat trout right now

I agree with TroutTrent, but be warned, GO SLOW. Just have someone up front looking out for rocks and such and you will be fine. I just got my boat back from getting a new lower unit courtesy of the rock garden...

If you have a map, draw a line between Grey Mare Rock and Cobb's Rock. Any time you go North of that line, go slow.

I was headed to Stoney Bayou and hit some close to shore between Big Cove and the entrance to Stoney. The rocks are in close and out a good mile I'd guess. Here's a post that may put some perspective to it...

Now on topic. I've been having fairly good luck on the DOA rootbeer with the chartreuse tail soft baits on a 1/8 jig head. Some days they want a slow retrieve and others a fast. I been starting out with this bait and changing it up only if I'm not having any luck. I like gulps also, but the pinfish like them a lot more. I don't have near the run ins with pin fish using the DOA baits.
