Took a new coworker who has just moved here from NC and never been on the flats before. With the rare light wind forecast, we went straight to the reef and found the sheephead (and the foltilla of course).

Here's Guy hooked up with a sheephead

and Calvin with the assist

a nice one

We stayed at the reef until about 2.30 pm, catching a mess of sheephead and grunts, and I decide to show Guy the trout fishery in the Bigbend. Took Guy a few attempts to got the hang of "just reel until you feel the fish" before setting the hook. He finally hooked up.

Of course Calvin was there for the assist.

not a monster but no need to measure either.

We only ended up with 3 keeper, and threw back that many. I was hopping for more action than that but knew we missed the bite as the water was barely moving anymore - high tide was at 4 pm and we fished from 3 to 5 pm.

We sent Guy home with a mess of fish and we still ended up with more than I care to clean.

Them sheephead were a lot of fun. Hope they will stick around for a couple more weeks. Would love to go after them one more time. There were a lot of bait at the reef, and they were being harassed by spanish and probably king as well. I'm sure the cobia are not that far behind.

Hi, BB. Nice mess of fish, that's a lot of sheepshead. Wife and I fished Keaton from 0900 to about 1530 and managed 5 real nice trout and a spanish. Trout were from 4 lbs. to 2 lbs. and all but one a fat female. Got some good trout roe to eat. We had to move around a lot to get them, no real hot spots but the bite did shut down about 2:45. Wind changed from SW to W and they all quit. But it was great to get a few bites.
