Saturday found Katie, along with both dogs, headed to the SMYC to sign in for the rodeo. We spoke with John and the other organziers for a bit before heading to the Fort. Despite having the best tides in the morning, I decided we should pick up our unusual targets on the way out rather going to look for trout. About a half mile before our stop in about 12' of water I tossed out a mackeral tree on one rod and a diving plug on the other. Just before arrival the rod with the tree started singing and Katie brought a 15" mackeral boatside; which proptly ate some skin between the thumb and index finger on my left hand. We started drifting a picked up a blue and bss in short order. We decided to fish a bit longer looking for a lady before we embarked on a shallow-water trout expedition looking for what I anticipated being the heaviest fish in our stringer. I hooked a couple mid-slot trout but shook them off boatside thinking they wouldn't do us much good. All the sudden I had a huge it on a jerk-bait and don't ya know I was fishing with the lightest rod in the boat. I proceeded to fight the beast for about 20 minutes before a 38" red came boatside. We snapped a couple pics and she awam away healthy.

We ran inside and proceeded to strike out on trout. We fished long enough that we didn't have time to run to deep hole in the River that is usually loaded with ladies.

A great day with my wife and pups. Thanks John and the entire SMYC crew!

Sunday I coordinated with the well known Matthew from Matthew's Fishin' Stix to chase some fish in preparation for the RTSO. We didn't have a spectacular day, but we had pretty consistent topwater action which keeps things interesting. We explored a creek early with little to show, and then found some slot fish hitting topwaters in 3 feet in the creek mouth. We left those fish biting to look for tournament fish. We each caught a 4# trout after the move and I added a mid-slot red. A fun day on the water. I enjoyed it Matthew and look forward to going again soon. Hope the ride back to GA was uneventful.

Good report. Those big trout have been hitting best right before and after the high tide, and it gets kinda dead til the incoming.

I don't know how many times I heard Brian yell, "That damn mackerel bit me! He bit me!"
