Why would you measure the other side if you have proved it legal?
In tournaments the fish is generally flipped if it is over....and checked...if its over its illegal....if its good....then your at the discretion of the weigh master. It could be flipped again...best two out of three wins or loses.
You can make an illegal fish legal and a legal fish illegal...depends on whether you push or pull the fish.
The HT series is using a board on a decline with a mechanism to pinch the tail...to attempt at taking the subjectivity in pinching out.

Some tournament directors/weigh masters get overzealous in pinching tails to the point of distorting the fishes tail.

The saltwater classic will flip the fish. If I can make it illegal, it's illegal.

The RedTroutShootout tournament directors were very clear, at the captain's meeting in Tallahassee, that their format was to measure both sides, and that both sides must be legal to qualify.

I have no problem with measuring both sides.
A fish can be fatter on one side and that side would measure shorter.
A fish can be on ice and curled somewhat.
That fish should be straightened and measured on both sides.
You can see from the FWC site a red fish tail is pinched only a small portion. It is not pinched to the center,which will distort the tail.
