BigBendFishing.Net

Since moving from the Big Bend almost two years ago I have learned to love fishing Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley. Both are located close by and are beautiful lakes. Great fisheries that I will enjoy learning for years to come. The other thing I enjoy is being located somewhat close to Bass Pro Shops in Nashville. If I can't fish then I can at least make a BPS run to stock up on something or grab a last minute supply for a trip.

I'm sure that by now you've heard about the flooding in Tennessee and particularly in the Nashville area. Bass Pro Shops, along with the rest of Nashville, was flooded. You can see some pictures here: http://s1039.photobucket.com/home/Bassp ... =slideshow

Crazy stuff. They are calling it a 500 year flood.

As that was happening I had a little bit of solace in the fact that I had placed an order online for some new baits and boating supplies I needed for a fishing trip I was planning last weekend with my dad. This was going to be his first outing on the lakes with me since I moved. Last Thursday as my parents were driving up from Florida this announcement came out:

MAY 5 US COAST GUARD ANNOUNCEMENT - Coast Guard has issued
a Safety Zone.

This means that no recreational boats are to be on either
rivers, the Cumberland or Tennessee, OR either Lakes, Kentucky or Barkley,
at anytime until AT LEAST Monday at Midnight. A maximum fine of up to $32,500
can be charged for anyone found boating on the lakes.

Stink!!!!

As of now Barkley is still closed and Kentucky is only open in a certain zone. The lakes have been about 10 feet above summer pool. That's high folks.

So I appreciate all of the reports and fishing stories on BBF.net. It is my only outlet for now.

All of my fishing buds are just kind of walking around in a daze right now.

If I head correctly there's a bunch of Disaster Response folks from the Souther Baptist Convention headed your way.

Head to Lake Malone in Lewisburg. There is not a lake for 50 miles that isn't way high, but this one drains quickly and isn't too far to travel

As of today all boat traffic has been reopened on the lakes. At the same time we are looking at more than a week of rain ahead. We'll see! Roll with the punches right?


Folks need all the help they can get. There was a lot of destruction. It's really crazy.
