Memorial Day & Top-Kill Thoughts

Good Morning Gents: Hope everyone gets an opportunity to fish this weekend. In our joy, let's not forget what this long weekend represents. Thanks to all the vets and their families, those who gave some and those that gave all.

I'm still working the spill and am missing another weekend with the family. Missing this weekend stinks due to the fact that it's our annual family Memorial Day weekend at SGI. The family is there and I have already heard a good fishing report from my father. In the big picture, missing this weekend is all right, we still have to go full force on trying to protect our environment during this catastrophe. I suspect that we will hear that the top-kill was unsuccessful within the next 24 hours or so. In turn, other options will be implemented. I think we all know that the only sure thing that will work is the implementation of the relief wells. Unfortunately those wells won't be completed until sometime in August (assuming that Mother Nature doesn't get in the way). My take away point still remains: all applicable resources are being utilized and will continue to be utilized until this emergency is over. That is why we see the various options being implemented and although they haven't been successful to date, every reasonable option will be tried.

Like I tell the staff here, although this is a terrible incident, in reality, all you have to do here on Earth is make sure you get to Heaven....

We have heard of several tournaments being cancelled throughout this Area of Response. I'm glad to see the folks at the Saltwater Classic are moving forward with the tourney. If all goes well, I will get a chance to break away for a long weekend and fish the tourney with my daughters. That's one family tradition I don't want to break.............

Yall be safe this weekend.

Thanks Sea Scoop. We really appreciate the updates. I hope that in the near future you get that time with your family. In the mean time we really appreciate you and the rest of the people who are working hard to protect the costal resources we love and enjoy.

Was thinking we can go to the moon, break the sound barrier, brain surgery, build super sky scrapers, conquer flight....but we can't plug a pipe....sometimes the simplest things are the hardest

Keep us posted SS and scoop some for all of us

I'm sure ya'll have heard by now that Top-Kill has been suspended.  That stinks, we will see what is available for another option. Systematic steps are being taken to try and ensure that the matter is not made worse (yes, it actually could get worse). Like I said before, the relief well is the only real hope. August is the projected timeline, that being said, the drillers are busting their humps for their co-workers that were lost and that gives a ray of hope that the wells will be done quicker than projected (once again, as long as Mother Nature doesn't hamper us). Two wells are being drilled in case one of them encounters a problem along the way.

Good Point Chalk, we can go to the moon but we can't plug a well. As Admiral Allen said a couple of weeks ago, this is a lot like the Apollo 13 mission.

The real challenge is working the pipe in an area that man cannot go to. In turn we have to rely on robotics, etc. Couple that with the fact that if a wrong move is made, the problem gets worse.

As if it wasn't bad enough, we are starting to get some more southern winds that are pushing the product north.

Sorry for the somber news but remember there are a lot of folks who are committed to trying to reduce the impact to the natural and economic environments.

Take Care,

Thanks for the report SS. I feel better knowing from the boots on the ground that in fact everything possible is being done.

Even with today's technology it is easier for man to operate in zero pressure rather than the enormous pressures encounter a mile down in our oceans.
