Boat Paint ?

I have an old aluminum jon boat that I bought back in late 60's..14' , live wells, no dents .I turned it up and filled it with water and no leaking.
Thought I might fix it up to do some creek and pond fishing..Probably buy a small 4 stroke for it. boat has been out in weather most of the time . turned upside down on sawhorses ect. The sun and weather has just about taken all the paint off it..
I wondered what kind of paint/primer that I ought to paint it with.. I have a compressor available in shop so would probably spray it.
Anyone have any advise on paint ? also on a small trailer with guide ons?

Rustoleum makes good metal paint.

WASH THE BARE ALUM. DOWN WITH VINIGAR AND LET DRY FOR SEVERAL HOURS IN SUN. I JUST FINISHED A ALUM. JON BOAT AND USE POLYURETHANE PAINT, TURNED OUT GREAT. THE BRAND IS PINTEXS CHEMICAL CORP. IN OPA LOCKA , FLA. IT IS A HIGH GRADE MARINE PAINT. I HAVE PAINTED ABOUT 10-12 ALUM. AND FIBER BOAT WITH IT AND IT IS STILL IN GREAT SHAPE ON ONE OF THE BOATS MY NEIGHBOR BOUGHT 5 YRS. AGO.

For your trailer needs, I'd recommend Coastal Trailer in Medart for a Rolls. Dan or Rex will take care of you.

After getting it down to bare aluminum and washing with vinegar, there are several brands of excellent self etching primers for aluminum. I did not go straight zinc chromate (I think is what it is), I just used a self etching primer on some custom made pods I had built. They look as good as the boat which was done professionally and are on their second season.
