The tournament started on Friday with 5 local boat captains taking wounded warriors and their families out fishing in a kingfish/wahoo shootout in some less than favorable conditions. The best story of the tournament was Sgt. Copes (I think I got his name right) fishing aboard the Bluewater Outriggers Pursuit catching a 73 pound wahoo on a flat line spinning reel in 78' of water. Another warrior fishing aboard the Southern Hooker caught a stud 31 pound king and won the first place honors. Our tournament day started Saturday morning and we were greeted by 5-7' seas and a stiff wind. We all decided before we left the dock we would not venture out past the buoy line in hopes of catching a decent king a nice spanish mack. We started catching fish right off the bat and ended up with a decent 11 pound king and a fat 5 pound spanish. We tied the boat back up at 9 am and headed off to breakfast hoping that our spanish would place. We ended up winning the spanish division and taking home $2500 and a trophy that was bigger than our fish!!! Not bad for a 2 hour fishing trip burning less than $50 worth of gas. Thanks to Bluewater Outriggers and all the sponsors for showing some wounded warriors a great weekend of fishing and fun!!!! Please check out the wounded warrior project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org, it is a great organization that takes care of wounded service men and women!! salute3 salute3
