St Joe Tournament

I meet up with my partner, bigfishy, around three Saturday morning to embark on our first trip to St. Joe Bay. The ride through Blountstown was quick and we made it to the launch right a five thirty. I recently downloaded the Navionics application for my Droid and had our first spot picked out. It was a flat right outside Eagle Harbor. The chart showed an area with deep water real close to the shore and the flat so that was our destination. At the start every single boat hauled butt towards black island and we went the other way across the bay. It paid off as bigfishy proceeded to put two really nice trout in the boat using a top water mirror lure in black and crome. But after around nine the bite seemed to stop and the heat was kicking in. We moved on down towards black island stopping every so often to catch a few lady fish... We did put one more trout in the boat on a gulp. After spending a few hours with no keepers we decided to try the bridge close to the boat launch. We had no success and actually caught our first catfish of the day. Around noon we decided to head back to the first location. On the way we ran across a large red bait school, and to our surprise it was loaded with tarpon and spanish. We loaded the boat with spanish but just could not get those darn tarpon to bite. Drifted with this school for a good half hour before we gave up and back to Eagle Harbor flat. The feed time for that day was kicking and it showed. We closed, bigfishy did really as I caught no trout, out our limit and even upgraded one. Pulled in several flounder as well. Three o'clock hit and it was time to go. We ended up with 8.1 lbs, two nice flounder and a bunch of spanish. I must say I now love St. Joe Bay and will definitely be going back soon. See yall at the next tourney.
