July 2010 NFGFC/JBT tournament
Posted: July 11th, 2010, 5:24 pm
My partner Jeremy(Grizzly) Adams and our guest Cliff met me at Jerrys Bait about 5 a.m.
It was our duty to accept tourney registrations.
We stayed until 6a.m.
After a good bacon egg and cheese sandwich from the JBT deli we headed to the St.Marks Fort to launch.
With the wind prediction of 10-15 SW,I had a good place figured out to stay out of the rough seas.
It worked out too.
The adjacent shoal knocked the waves down and we had a perfect condition to throw topwater.
The topwater bite was good for a couple hours.
The only problem was most fish were missing the hooks and knocking the lure out of the water.
We still managed to boat a few fish and broke off a few fish.
Cliff, our designated net man did a great job.
He even had 2 nets to work with.
He can fish too.
Grizzly had to put his pole down now and then to net for Cliff.
Later in the morning we decided to go East for a redfish.
Never found a red but did upgrade a few trout.
Back on the trailer at 2:30 we headed to JBT for the weighin.
While en-route several contestants called for an update and to expel their lies and excuses.
As soon as we got there, the bottom fell out on the weather with blowing rain and multiple really close by lightning strikes.
The lightning was fierce and drove 50 anglers inside the JBT store to wait it out.
After the weigh in the raffle tickets were drawn.
Everyone won a nice prize,including Katie(K8show)Showman.
She won the grand prize, a 7 foot FALCON Bait caster rod.
Looking forward to the Carrabelle tournament in August.
See ya' there.
