Had the opportunity to take the trout master Peng, his son Calvin (the legend), and their regular fishing buddy DDB Dr Dave on a little brim trip. We joked with Calvin on the way down about his legend status on the fishing forums and like most 10 year olds just gave us, you’re kidding me shrugged off look.

These trout boys sure know how to put bait in the boat as I pulled up to the pinfish hole Celeste and I stood in amazement as these three anglers provided a live well full of tasty pins in no more than 20 minutes, a brief stop to pick up some squirrels a little bit offshore and then we headed south! Seas weren’t great so we stopped to see if we could find some takers in the 50-60 ft range not much going on there so after some big sea basses and grunts took stink out of the boat we headed to some greater depths. Calvin’s look to Dad says it all “This isn’t a trout boat”  :-D

After a deciding to go to our Grouper number first instead of the snapper area I had in mind the grouper and surprisingly (not) snapper started filling the box!

Peng got into the action with a Snap,

After some time moving around and numerous drifts of the spot we had nearly a limit of snapper, two nice red grouper and a couple other keepers, so I said we needed to move to my real snapper hole and finish up the snap limit.

This paid off only after a little untangle caused from a shark, Calvin drops back down and gets slammed, but fish ran away from the boat so he thought it was another shark, Dad, Peng took hold of the rod for 2-3 seconds then he handed it right back to Calvin and say it’s all you son, that’s no shark! Some major work later and great skills from a 10 year old and this pig surfaces to the view of the anxious crew!

All and All it was a great trip for us and the Keaton trout fishermen! Thanks to them, my mate The Celestial one, and to our buddy Todd BlueH20Fisherman!

As usual, GREAT report.

Any idea how much that pig of a snapper weighed? That one was a HOSS for sure! Kudos to Calvin for hauling that one in... no small feat!

Calvin's Snapper is our new boat record for American Red Snapper (since she became The Celestial Crab) 31 inches and 15.5 lbs.

Calvin is a true angler not too much down time when he's fishing!

The secret is simple; i make sure the livewell is full and let the crew put fish on the boat.

Thanks again for the trip Joe and Celest, it was great fun. The offshore trips have been few and far between for this inshore guy lately.
