I have a bottom fishing trip to Carrabelle planned this wednsday thru friday. I'm looking for some good areas to bottom fish. Not wanting your "honey hole numbers", just good bottom areas. I've already got several public numbers off the internet.

Weather permitting go to K tower then O tower.
Watch your bottom machine and fish what looks fishy.

Take as much live bait as you can carry out to S tower.

What Tom said. Out pass S tower you will be in some good deep water with lots of areas to fish.

If you are new to the upper Gulf Big Bend area, the bottom may not be what you're used to. Rather than a bottom that shows a lot of relief, it is "honeycombed" and often just looks flat -- but there are holes in the hard bottom that provide the structure the fish need. Watch your bottom machine for display color variances that indicate a difference that could mean hard bottom. This pretty old fashioned, but when you see what may be rock, drop a line with a good sized weight - you'll feel whether it's sand or rock. If you go to K tower and try awhile and then take a heading to O tower, there is a lot of good bottom between the 2. I'd try that before running all the way to S. But, Tidedancer also gives good counsel. Good luck.

Oh, and two words for success: "LIVE BAIT"!

Great info and I won't disagree, but you don't HAVE to go out to S tower to find good bottom and although I am a firm believer in live bait, that pig snapper Calvin caught was on frozen!

Thanks to all for the advise. We made the trip to Carrabelle this week, had a fun time. A quaint coastal fishing community. We stayed at "The Moorings" motel and marina. Nice place, clean, and a nice slip for my boat.

The public numbers I found weren't quite right on, but we made it ok. A worker at the marina gave me a list of numbers, only did fair fishing them.
This is a completely different fishery than the Destin area. Without local experence, the bottom was a bit hard for me to read. The weather wasn't quite as good as promised, the seas kept us from going as far offshore as we wanted to.
We did catch 1 cobia, a couple of snapper, one grouper, one king, and a large number of sea bass and grunts.
A fun trip overall.

Well it's sounds like you caught enough for a few grillings and fish fry's. Glad you had a good time and come back to visit us soon.
