Finding Trout in Dog Days

We need some advice on locating speckled trout in these hot summer Dog Days. Seems they have left the flats. Are they in deeper water? How do you locate them?

Do any of you use a fish finder to help locate trout. We took ours off the fish finding mode in shallow water because it annoyed my wife with all the beeps. I can’t hear it so it didn’t bother me. Now that the trout may be in deep water can we locate them better with the fish finder? They may be scattered so that wouldn’t help?

Last Friday, July 23 rd, we fished out of Keaton and didn't caught any trout. Several of you gave good fishing reports on that same day so I know they are some where and will bite. I believe we could catch them if we could find them.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

10-15 feet of water.
hard bottom,rocky,spotty.
Look for crab traps in deeper water.
The crabbers know where the good bottom is.

Thanks Jumptrout51.

Never thought of crabbers but that is good advice! Yes, and they would know.

I suppose I could see if I wasn't so blind...makes good sense!

Any more good advice out there?

Thanks again.....and good fishing!
