August 9-Lighthouse

Fished this morning with my friend John Reddick and his girlfriend Brittany. We met at the house at 5 30 and headed to the lighthouse. Caught menhaden and finger mullet in the canal. I found the trout as soon as we got to our first spot. I put 5 keepers in the boat, ranging from 16 to 18, all the fish were released. Things were slow for a while and we ended up going to catch more bait. We were able to find lots of mud minnows and this paid off. John hooked up with a fish that took him down to his final knot on his reel, we pulled anchor and gave chase. Eventually we got all the line back and John put a 26 inch red in the cooler. Before this red, John landed a 17.5 inch trout that he wanted to keep. I hooked up with a red next and it was a fish that went about 21 inches. Then, on two consecutive casts, John got taken all the way down to the knot on his reel and broke off both times. I was next to hook up, the fish didn't get me down to my knot, but it took me for a ride and then broke me off. All three of these fish were running like big bull reds. A little while later I landed a red that was 26.5 inches. Although Britt didn't catch any keepers, she did catch a huge gar and I think she had a good time. We ended up bringing home 3 reds(21, 26, and 26.5 inches), and one trout(17.5 inches). It took a little while for us to find the reds today but it was never boring, something was always happening. Great day on the water, go out there and get them. I am taking a day off from fishing tomorrow and will probably fish again Wednesday morning.
